Sarah Fleming is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Social Work at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Before entering academia, she had a decade-long social service career working with survivors of domestic violence, immigrants and refugees, and older adults. She has worked closely with the U.S. Administration for Community Living, Office on Violence Against Women, and Office of Family Violence Prevention and Services, as well as with community-based organizations providing domestic violence and aging/disability services. Sarah holds a Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in community practice from the University of Minnesota, as well as a legal certificate in elder law from Mitchell Hamline School of Law. She is bilingual (English/Spanish).
As a PhD student at Simmons University, Sarah is conducting research on the well-being of domestic violence survivors and their children experiencing housing instability.
Sarah lives in Decorah, Iowa with her husband, son, and many animals. She is active in community organizations in the Decorah area.
